New Wave of Displacement Strikes Al-Fasher Due to Military Escalation

Al-Fasher – November 20, 2024: The city of Al-Fasher, the capital of North Darfur, has witnessed a new wave of displacement as clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) intensify. Around 642 families, approximately 3,210 people, have fled the city to mountainous areas in Jebel Marra due to the ongoing fierce battles that are threatening civilian lives.

Adam Rajal, a local activist, reported that the displaced are facing extremely difficult humanitarian conditions, with severe shortages in essential supplies such as water, food, and medicine. He added that the situation is becoming catastrophic, with hunger and malnutrition spreading, and there is an urgent need for more support to prevent further suffering.

The military escalation in Al-Fasher comes at a critical time, as the RSF attempts to control new areas in the Darfur region, worsening the already deteriorating situation. Despite international and regional mediation efforts to establish a ceasefire, these negotiations have failed to bring about a lasting halt to the fighting, exacerbating the hardships faced by civilians.

Relief organizations are warning that the humanitarian crisis in Al-Fasher could worsen further if adequate support is not provided to the affected areas.
