Yet, from the depths of hardship, it emerged as a beacon of success and resilience. After securing 10th place in the sixth-grade exams with a 63% success rate, today the school celebrates an even greater achievement—its girls’ intermediate certificate results, boasting an impressive 83.4% success rate, a testament to unwavering determination and perseverance.

A Story of Resilience… From Displacement to Hope

Um Shujairat School was born in the harshest of circumstances. Its students endured displacement, homelessness, and deprivation, suffering at the hands of militias who subjected them to looting, fear, intimidation, verbal and physical abuse, oppression, and even death. Yet, despite these unimaginable hardships, their spirit remained unbroken.

They found refuge in Um Shujairat Camp, where people from all corners of Sudan came together, turning the camp into a miniature nation united under one cause.

Living in makeshift tents and huts, they braved the freezing cold of winter, the scorching heat of summer, and the relentless nine-month-long struggle for survival, relying on humanitarian aid while holding onto a vision of a brighter future.

The Birth of a School… A Light in the Darkness

Amid these challenges, the idea of establishing a school took shape—starting with just five students. With the support of compassionate individuals, the number soon grew to 133 students.

At the heart of this endeavor was a man who never wavered in his mission, working tirelessly day and night to lay the foundation for education in the camp. Then came the intervention of a man of determination and action, Abdulrahman Abdullah Kabida, the Director of Education for the Galabat locality, who played a pivotal role in paving the way for this dream to become a reality.

Strategic Partnerships That Made a Difference

UNICEF played a crucial role in supporting the initiative, providing classrooms, educational materials, school uniforms, and teacher support tools. Following that, the African Vision for Development Organization took on the demanding task of ensuring the school’s success. Led by dedicated individuals—including Mohamed Idris, Ibrahim Abdullah, Mohamed Al-Mubarak, Mahdi Abkar, and Abu Bakr—they spared no effort in turning this vision into reality.

The Teachers… Unsung Heroes of Knowledge

The greatest role was played by the displaced teachers, carefully selected for their unparalleled expertise and dedication. Each one of them was a school in their own right, bringing with them decades of teaching experience—mentors, supervisors, and educators, all committed to nurturing young minds. With relentless effort and selfless devotion, they erased ignorance and illuminated the minds of their students, walking the earth like angels in human form.

A Triumphant Conclusion… The Fruits of Hard Work

After five months of tireless dedication, the results are in—proof that hard work, resilience, and faith can overcome even the most insurmountable obstacles. Today, we witness the harvest of a journey filled with sacrifice and perseverance.

All praise and gratitude be to Allah, the Most Generous and the Most Gracious.

A Heartfelt Thank You

To everyone who contributed to this noble cause—to the teachers who gave selflessly, expecting neither gratitude nor recognition—our deepest appreciation and respect.
